Ramadhan and After

So, what is installed for you guys after this? We have 5 months left in 2011 (insyaAllah). So let's make the best out of it. Ramadhan menjelang tiba. I am really looking forward to that. :) Training will still continue. I miss those time when my group of friends ran up all the way to Genting masa bulan puasa. We started at McDonald's Genting Sempah, and run up all the way to First World Hotel together with Ngae and the rest of the LeTuang. Those were the days. Hihih.. I have Desaru, MUDS, Powerman after August. What else.. uhmm, don't think I will be doing Penang Marathon this year. Will be skipping The Most Beautiful Thing 100km trail in Sabah as it is only a week apart from Powerman. I can't go on doing everything as there will be no quality in the race performance even when I aim to only complete the race without any injuries. The commitment in terms of planning, time, energy (and $$) for extreme distances is not as simple as ABC. Even if 2 endurance races are not exactly back to back, you can definitely feel the tension when your training overlaps, lacking quality and concentrated training, lack of rest and recovery.. 100km is no joke even for the seasoned ultras. We need these limbs and body for a long time, not only to do sports, but other acts i.e. work, charity etc.. So, why burden it unnecessarily?

Glory Forever ? or Glory fever ?

The saying pain is temporary, and glory is forever. Yup, true.. but if the pain is from an injury which can't be reversed, and if reversed won't bring back the same mobility or functionality, is it worth it? National athlete Shahrom Abdullah did not finish Powerman Austria because of pain on his legs. A wise decision right there . I have a few friends who are now recovering from some injury.. I hope you guys will recover soon, and come back to sports soon. To the rest of you out there, try to be selective in your races even it is for fun. To have fun, you need still need to train. I am not those few who goes around saying I am proud to complete this distance 'without training'. It may apply to 1 or 2 person, but generally speaking, I would say it is kind of selfish. You know when you want to teach someone something, you would want to teach the person the right and best thing to do. Would you be happy to have a friend who is new to cycling getting his knee busted just because you 'forgot' and 'didn't' recommend him/her to go for a bike fit ? Or perhaps you yourself didn't do any fitting and somehow managed to go through without any injury.. ? One thing about sports acquired injury, not all are acute.. some takes days, weeks or even months (and in some cases , years) for it to be detected, felt and diagnosed..

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

So think about it..we may do sports just for fun and for health reasons..but if we don't do it right, we might end up hurting ourselves and that defeats the whole purpose doing sports at the first place. I remind myself and my friends from time to time we should be humble in sports (in other things as well) — so that we can learn from those who are more knowledgeable than us who have more experience than us. Read. There are plenty materials out there on training, sports nutrition, etc written by recognized coaches and world class athletes. Take the effort to learn so you can learn to respect the distance. More.

Humility

If you are a newbie in triathlon — you might want to know that a good bike no matter how light or high-tech it is does not equate an excellent bike time. Why ? Go read, and come back to share with us here why. I have done so far, only 1 Ironman , 2 half Ironman distances, several ODs and sprints. I started from the sprint distance, going up to the OD, half Ironman, then Ironman. I did the ultra 100km last month — and I felt I have no right at all to 'brag' even after I have finished it (i don't normally brag…huhu…).. Coincidentally, I haven't even worn the 100km finisher tee.. I am not exactly sure why.. just that, if I were to wear it, I wouldn't don it for the 'sole purpose' of telling everybody I did it. :) tak rugi apa2.. same goes to my oversized Ironman tee.. gee.. I need to put it one of these days la…I miss Ironman Langkawi. Bring it back !!!!!!!!!!!! — i miss it so much I have not changed my profile pic since February 2009. Talk about 'attachment' ! fuhhlamakk…dari gambar2, terus jadi mini lecture series pulak jadinya.. ni lah, once I am in the zone writing a post, I will most likely go on and on. I am not the best speaker (yes I suck at public speaking..), writer, what more a triathlete. Loads to improve, and a lot to learn from expert friends and coaches. :) To all my age groupers triathlon buddies who have conquered against all odds, excelling in what you guys love most and being able to finish race after race without any injuries, I salute you. Keep going on. Have a beautiful Friday and weekend everybadehhh !! Dan selamat berpuasa to all my Muslim friends. May Allah Bless you.

just me ; missjewelz.marmalade :)

The night I drew a flower with the neon light. heeeheee. Pretty innit?
